A Commitment with our Pro Bono Practices

The lawyers at Morgan & Morgan, the only Panamanian law firm to have signed the Pro Bono Declaration for the Americas, along with its non-profit organization ‘Fundación de Asistencia Legal Comunitaria’ (Fundalcom), have participated this year in seven «Legal Orientation Open Houses» with the sole purpose of provide orientation and training different communities in domestic violence and family law topics.

These «Legal Orientation Open Houses», have taken place in poor communities of the Colón and Panama provinces like Colon City, Chorrillo, Calidonia, Guna Nega, La Chorrera (Naos), Puerto Caimito, and Las Mañanitas have advised more than 270 people in domestic violence and family law where more than 86% where women. Participants also attend different lectures to learn more about domestic violence and its implications. Thanks to this initiative, low income individuales receive a first-class legal counseling on subjects such as divorce, abuse, custody, alimony, affiliations, among others.

Fundalcom, is a unique project between law firms and private companies in Panama, that aims to provide Panamanians of limited economic resources with free legal advice and representation in family law and domestic violence cases.  Fundalcom has counseled more than 3,000 people and has sponsored different community projects. Parallel to these legal efforts, and with the objective of sensitizing the community, Fundalcom also organizes training and prevention workshops about domestic violence that have benefited more than 2,500 people with the support of different institutions and non-profit organizations.

With its participation in these «Legal Counseling Open Houses» , Morgan & Morgan renew its commitment with the Pro Bono Declaration of the Americas, being the first and only signatory firm in Panama. This Declaration is an initiative of the New York-based Cyrus Vance Center for International Justice, through which the leading law firms of the American Continent commit themselves to providing free legal assistance to vulnerable, low income individuals.
