MMG Trust (BVI) donates books to British Virgin Islands school libraries

“We believe that in order to understand many things about the BVI you need to go back to the roots to identify with the culture,” Fanny Evans, Executive Director and General Manager of MMG Trust (BVI) Corp. announced before making a book presentation to Minister for Education and  Culture, Hon. Myron Walwyn.

Evans presented the BVI bestselling book “Early History of the British Virgin Islands – From Columbus to Emancipation” by Vernon Pickering to the Ministry of Education, who will facilitate the distribution of over 130 copies to the various school libraries.

The MMG Trust Executive Director stated that the donation is a symbol of the company’s commitment to the BVI, not only for business, but also as a resident corporate entity having operated in the Territory for 27 years.  She said that the company believes in Education and improving Territorial awareness: “This is a way of showing respect to the Territory that has welcomed us.”

Minister for Education and Culture, Hon. Myron Walwyn announced that the donation is another example of public private partnership. “I’ve always said that Government can’t do it alone.”

Hon. Walwyn noted that the donation covers both the educational and cultural aspect of his portfolio. He pointed out that the Ministry of Education and Culture has been aiming to promote Territorial pride and noted the push to include Virgin Islands history and civics in the schools.

Myron Walwyn.
